Summer Reading Programs For Children and Teens

FOR AGES 2-5
Toddler & Preschool Storytime is held on Wednesday mornings from 10:30-11 AM in the Falkner Park Pavilion. Join Miss S. for stories and songs perfect for your toddlers and preschoolers. It will be an active romp of reading, singing and learning in Falkner Park!
When storytime is finished, the splashpad turns on!
No registration required. Rain or shine, Falkner Park Pavilion. In case of thunder, Youngstown Free Library.

Adventure Readers is held on Wednesday afternoons from 1-1:30 in the Falkner Park Pavilion. Storytime isn't just for toddlers! In this weekly storytime for those aged 4-8, we'll be sharing funny stories and learning about adventures and travel.
After storytime, there's a frozen treat for everyone!

Take & Make Craft Kits are released every Monday afternoon at the Youngstown Free Library. Our kids' craft programs are set up for TAKE and MAKE fun this year! TAKE home a craft kit for each child aged 5-10 in your family. Then they can MAKE a fun and challenging craft every week.
First come, first served.

Take & Make Teen Craft Kits are released every other Monday afternoon at the Youngstown Free Library. Teens ages 10-16 can each TAKE a craft kit from the Teen Room, then MAKE a creative and challenging craft every other week this summer.

Tabletop Gaming: Martian Awakening is held on Tuesday evenings from 6-8 PM. What would you do if you were transported to Mars? Preteens, teens and adults, join us for our 5-week campaign to find out!
No registration is required. Beginners are welcome! Pre-made Dungeons & Dragons 5e characters, pencils, paper, dice, and refreshments included!

StoryWalk® in the Park is held on Friday evenings from 5-8:30 in Falkner Park during the free concerts. Each StoryWalk® integrates a children's picture book into stops along a walking path. Families can walk...and read!

Summer Reading Challenge for Children and Teens

The Library's Summer Reading Challenge will run from July 1 - September 6 (the end of the first week of school). This year, families can track their child's time spent reading with three easy options:

1. On your phone or tablet, download the READSquared app from the App Store or the Google Play Store and create an account under the Youngstown Free Library OR

2. On your computer, log reading time using the ReadSquared website OR

3. Pick up paper reading logs at the Youngstown Free Library.

Either way, great prizes await you! Last year's community-wide reading record was over 87,000 minutes; can we beat that record this summer?

Library Board of Trustees is meeting on Monday, July 22 at 7 PM at the Youngstown Free Library. The Ruby Carey Scholarship Award winner will be feted at a reception at 6:30 PM that evening prior to the meeting. Meeting reports are available online the weekend before the meeting.

The Library will be closed on Labor Day weekend (August 31 - September 2).

 


DRIVING DIRECTIONS


The mission of the Youngstown Free Library is to be a community center which inspires learning and provides access to a vast range of information and resources for patrons of all ages.

The Youngstown Free Library Board of Trustees meetings are held on the last Monday of the month, with the following exceptions: in May, the Board meets on the 3rd Monday of the month, and the Board has no meetings in August or December. The public is always welcome to attend.
