Electronic Recycling Fundraiser

Saturday, September 18th from 9 AM - 1 PM at the Youngstown Free Library parking lot
Here is your chance to clean out your old electronics--brought to you as a fundraiser for the Youngstown Free Library! This fundraiser is open to the community, but it is limited to residential electronics only (no business electronics).

Suggested donation of $5 per item for recycling.

Acceptable electronics: TVs (LCD, CRT & plasma only, and ONLY 1 TV PER VEHICLE)* Computers * Monitors * Laptops * Modems * Servers * Microwaves * Cell Phones * Fax Machines * Copiers * CD Players * IT Equipment * Peripherals Audio/ Visual Equipment * Telecommunications Equipment * GPS Units
Unacceptable items: Floor Model TVs * Wooden Console TVs * Rear Projection TVs * Lightbulbs or Fixtures * Freon-containing Items (refrigerators, air conditioners) * Household Appliances

Disposal services generously provided by Maven. Thank you!
Monetary donations will be graciously accepted and used for funding the Youngstown Free Library.

September programs for adults

Evening Book Club is meeting on Wednesday, September 8th at 7 PM at the Youngstown Free Library. We will be discussing by The Other Wes Moore by Wes Moore. Please call or email the Library if you'd like a copy of the book; all are welcome!
Afternoon Book Club is meeting on Tuesday, September 21st at 1:30 PM at the Lewiston Senior Center to discuss The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett. Please call or email the Library if you'd like a copy of the book; all are welcome!
Friends of the Library's Board of Directors Meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 15th at 7 PM at the Youngstown Free Library. All current members of the Friends are welcome to attend to discuss the upcoming fundraisers to benefit the Library.
Youngstown Free Library's Board of Trustees Meeting will be held on Monday, September 27th at 7 PM at the Youngstown Free Library. The Library Board is the governing body for the Youngstown Free Library. Its trustees meet regularly to review current issues, budget, policies and staffing. The community is encouraged to attend these meetings. This is YOUR Library, folks, and everyone is welcome!

September programs for children

Story Hour with the Town of Porter is back! Join the Town of Porter's weekly Story Hour at the Youngstown Free Library for a storytime perfect for toddlers and preschoolers! Every week, we read together, make crafts, and practice socialization skills while having fun! No registration required.

Summer Reading Challenge

The Library's Summer Reading Challenge ends Sunday, September 12, so that will be the last day for families to log kids' reading time online with ReadSquared. To log their reading, download the ReadSquared app from the App Store and find our library by typing in "Youngstown Free Library." Your kids' reading can earn them prizes and count towards our grand total, which will be published in the fall newsletter of the Friends of the Library.

Prizes for the Summer Reading Challenge will be available for pick-up at the Front Desk of the Library until the end of September.

Because our youngest patrons are not yet able to get vaccinated, we require that masks be worn by everyone while inside the Library.

Private appointments are available for vulnerable populations on

Here are some highlights from our current Safety Plan, which was approved by the Library Board of Trustees on May 24, 2021. As always, our top priority is the safety of staff members and patrons.

• All staff members are screened daily to ensure that everyone is feeling well.
• All staff and patrons are wearing appropriate PPE for each situation.
• We are cleaning all public areas on a regular basis.
• We are cleaning and disinfecting all work areas at the end of every shift.

The mission of the Youngstown Free Library is to be a community center which inspires learning and provides access to a vast range of information and resources for patrons of all ages.

The Youngstown Free Library Board of Trustees meetings are held on the last Monday of the month, with the following exceptions: in May, the Board meets on the 3rd Monday of the month, and the Board has no meetings in August or December. The public is always welcome to attend.
