Friends of the Youngstown Free Library

The Friends of the Youngstown Free Library is a group of dedicated individuals who value their public library as a vital community resource. We are book lovers, information seekers, readers, techies, music, and movie buffs. We are young and old, with varying interests and backgrounds.

We all are committed to supporting and enhancing our Library, its programs, resources, events, and services. We recognize that funding for libraries is steadily decreasing, and we are here to fill the gap in order to offer the best possible service to our residents.

Who are the Friends?

The Friends of the Youngstown Free Library is an incorporated separate 501(c)(3) that works diligently to fill the funding gap between what the Library needs to operate effectively and what is received from local and county governments.

Each fall, the Friends coordinate the Library's Annual Fund Drive, which successfully raises over 15% of the Library's operating budget.

The Friends also conduct the Friends' Membership Campaign at the beginning of each year. The campaign's proceeds are used to supplement many extras not possible through the Library budget. For example, magazine subscriptions and audiobook collections have been expanded. The Library's annual summer reading programs and reading challenges for children and families are sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
